Iconic???
");
document.write("Trust the City of Cape Town to declare a building like this to be ICONIC. There is nothing special about it, it was not a \"first\" of it's kind, not the highest, and certainly not the best looking... What, now all of a sudden, makes it an ICON? The Seagram building is world-famous, yes, but please... Stop being so fvcking pretencious. Reading stuff like this is embarressing, imagine what people from real cities like New York or Chicago must think. Yet another example of South African pride over mediocrity.. D");

document.write("Whatever your opinion about the Absa builing, the fact of the matter is that it certainly IS iconic.
Everyone that know Cape Town knows the Absa building, it's an icon.
I think it looks fine for a 40-year-old building.
And I have never associated that building with the station or District Six. I don't see your point, Freddie.
Anyways, whatever.. Isak Haan");

document.write("It is an Icon... if you live in Cape Town, you know where the ABSA building is and what it looks like. It used to be a fantastic place to stay back in the 70's and I'm sure with this revamp it will be up there with the best buildings in the CBD. So, the old farts should stop complaining about it... it's getting a revamp and any upgrade will be an improvement!. Clinton");

I think it's an icon and look forward to the improvements.. Marisa van der Vyfer");

Especially important when using expletives in the same critique as this simply makes you look like an illiterate fool. To help you may I point out that you misspelt pretentious and embarrassing. Embarrassing - don't you think?? SaM. Sandra");

Off course, the ring of mountains rightly dwarfs any attempt by wo/man to strut their egos.
Compared to the motley lot of 'peanut-brittle' old Shell house or pre-cast panelled post-modern old Safmarine house, the Absa blg is by far the better.
Indeed, it still looks modern, even timeless.
Recognizing this is vital by the city and the guys putting some money into it should be congratulated.
I'm looking forward to seeing the up-grade.

It is one of very few steel framed high rise structures in the country, the majority being concrete framed. The architects were Colyn & Meiring and the structural engineers Liebenberg & Stander. Murray and Stewart were the contractors. . DS");
