Addendum

If you're late with the rent, or fail to pay it altogether, you might be liable for all kinds of costs, if stated in the lease.

Here are examples of what you might be liable for:

  • Instruction to attorneys: Up to R450

  • Reminder courtesy letter: Up to R150

  • Demand letter: Up to R200

  • Summons pending letter: Up to R200

  • Lease cancellation or short notice fee: Up to R550

  • Administration fee to re-let premises: R550

These fees are exorbitant, but aren't a factor if you keep your side of the bargain.
